The Munstead Socks were designed as a fundraiser for Treasure Chest, a charity supporting patients who are having or have had surgery for breast cancer at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales. 80% of the income from this pattern throughout October 2022 was donated to Treasure Chest, a total of £130!
From 1st November 2022 this became part of my standard pattern catalogue.
The inspiration for the Munstead Socks came from two places – The first was the yarn being dyed for Treasure Chest this year (by Siobhan of Siobhan’s Crafts). I knew it was inspired by a lavender bath bomb and would have a lavender feel to it. The second inspiration was that I wanted to create a pattern that would be calming and soothing to knit, a bit like the knitting equivalent of a lavender scented bath. Therefore, the sock is mainly stocking stitch, but with a panel down the side that uses simple cables and twisted stitches to illustrate a sprig of lavender.
Munstead is the name of a particular variety of English Lavender.
This pattern has been test knit and professionally tech edited.
